The Lakes Townhouse

Residential

Background

Pernille Lind Studio was afforded the exciting opportunity to renovate and redesign the interiors of a four-storey townhouse, located on one of the most charming and sought-after streets in Copenhagen. The house is situated off one of the roads by the East city lakes, also called ‘kartoffelrækkerne’.

The Brief

A couple with Danish and South African backgrounds having lived in London for years, wanted to create a home which reflected their individual heritage, yet was complimentary to the building’s attributes and context.

Bespoke Interior Design

We were tasked with re-imagining and re-configuring a four-floor living space to suit the needs of a modern couple anticipating growth as a family. Our design process began with the fundamentals, including the kitchen layout and space, which was opened up and connected to a previously small living room. The overall interior was considered in such a way as to enhance, rather than overpower the original charm of the house, a process that heavily focused on natural materials such as timber and a muted colour scheme.

Our kitchen design celebrates the warm and inviting character of fumed oak, which also informed much of the bespoke joinery, such as the study library and bathroom cabinets. The marble kitchen island provides both practical function and pleasing aesthetics as a central element in the space.
